PEER 1 Hosting Research Reveals Consumers Expect a Faultless Online Shopping Experience This Holiday Season

81% of U.S. Online Shoppers Demand a Good Website Experience – Or They Will Shop Elsewhere

Vancouver, British Columbia – December 12, 2013 – A new independent survey of 1,377 U.S. online shoppers, commissioned by web infrastructure and cloud hosting provider PEER 1 Hosting, reveals that eight out of 10 online shoppers insist on a faultless online shopping experience this holiday season. According to the findings, nearly two-thirds of respondents (65 percent) have abandoned an online shopping cart because of slow websites, time-outs and long page load times.

Based on PEER 1 Hosting’s survey findings, the top three online shopping frustrations are poor navigation (50 percent), slow web page load times (47 percent) and interruptions / timeouts (40 percent). Even more telling, more than half (52 percent) of shoppers say that website performance hitches like these make them think less of a brand. When deciding to shop at a particular site, online shoppers pay the most attention to the website’s ease of use (88 percent), strong security (72 percent) and clear web images (64 percent). Further, nearly a third of shoppers will avoid shopping online altogether during heavy web traffic periods, like Black Friday, when they expect performance issues to occur.

For the 2013 holiday season, more than a quarter of respondents say they plan to spend a larger portion of their overall shopping budget with online retailers than they did last year, with almost half (45 percent) of their shopping occurring online.
