Vancouver Power Outage
PEER 1 service was disrupted yesterday, July 14th due to an underground fire in downtown Vancouver, BC. A series of unprecedented events came into play as an entire BC Hydro substation was put out of service for approximately 2200 customers; water pressure was reduced, impacting the building’s main generator cooling system.
We are taking yesterday’s outage very seriously, as we know our customers depend on us as their trusted IT infrastructure provider. We are conducting a full review of our key efficiencies and fail safe measures to ensure that this type of unlikely series of events does not occur again. We are working with our Vancouver building management and looking at corrective action in that regard, as well as research and review the best practice methods in the days ahead.
In the meantime, our customers remain our most important asset and we will fully honor our service level agreements. Our policy as a company is to maintain open communication and to be transparent in updating our customers on what is going on within the company whether we are reporting good news or bad. In this situation, our PEER 1 team across North America pulled together to offer customer and technical support during and after the disruption.

I’m really upset with PEER 1. It has become the source of about 90% of the SPAM I receive and nothing has been done yet about removing the spammers. This is not very impressive when TOS are violated and not enforced when reported – to you, eNom and to the FTC – Federal Trade Commission. I do not like to waste my time with spammers – but since you seem to be the biggest source, I guess I will have to and let people know about it.

Hi Jane. We are certainly taking this incident very seriously. We are in the process of conducting a thorough post mortem review of the events and taking all measures necessary to ensure that our customes online presence is protected and not disrupted again in this fashion.
Thank you for your comments.

Hi Raymond. PEER 1 takes spam and spammers being on our network very seriously. We work hard to control these issues and by doing so, our efforts have allowed us to maintain a ‘White Hat’ status with Spamhaus. PEER 1 has averaged zero listings company wide for over 2 years now. We have a no spam tolerance policy in place and do enforce our AUP accordingly, which allows us to have a clean network and a great reputation as being proactive.
I recommend contacting our abuse department at abuse@peer1.com with specifics of the e-mails that you are receiving. If you would like to contact me directly to discuss this, please feel free to do so and I will be more than happy to try to resolve this issue for you.
Thank you,
